As a first-generation immigrant to Canada, I experienced firsthand the challenges of adapting to a new country and culture. Over time, the kindness and support I found here helped me build a life with my family and truly feel at home. After nearly ten years in Nova Scotia, I’ve found my community, made connections, and experienced inclusion, something I hope to help others find as well.

Over the years, I’ve helped newcomers find their footing in Canada — guiding them through local systems, translating documents, and connecting them with neighbours and community life.

What drew me to the Community Navigator role is the opportunity to support physicians and medical learners in a genuine, personal way. Everyone’s journey is different, but we all share the need to feel connected and to belong. My goal is to help make that happen, to be the bridge that connects newcomers with the people, places, and experiences that make this region special. I believe care goes both ways, from physicians and for physicians, and by helping them settle in, build relationships, and feel part of the community, I hope to make their transition smoother and their experience here deeply rewarding. Southwestern Nova Scotia has a way of making people feel at home, and I’m grateful to play a part in that welcome.

Building a healthier region, together

The Partnership proudly collaborates with all levels of government, community partners such as healthcare sectors and local businesses, to strengthen healthcare in our region. Our key collaborators include the Town of Yarmouth, the Municipalities of Argyle, Barrington, and Yarmouth, as well as Nova Scotia Health, local healthcare facilities and clinics, community organizations, business networks, and the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation. We also acknowledge the province’s ongoing support through the Office of Healthcare Professionals Recruitment, which has been instrumental in many of our past and current initiatives focused on the recruitment, attraction, and retention of physicians and medical learners.

Together, these partners share a commitment to enhancing healthcare access, improving infrastructure and equipment, and ensuring that physicians and healthcare professionals feel supported at every stage of their journey in our communities.
